How About a Habitat Dollhouse?

Last fall I met with the truly inspiring Trudy Merritt. The North Platte Area Habitat for Humanity Fund raising Committee thought hosting a 5K run would be a fun way to bring attention to our 50th House build. Since I know nothing about running, let alone hosting, a 5K run I went directly to the expert, Trudy Merritt. This lady coordinates the Platte River Fitness Series here in North Platte so it is safe to say, she knows her stuff.

The evening we met our Construction Coordinator, Larry Pedersen, had just completed a donation box inspired by a Habitat house. We planned to use it at a Christmas event later in the month. We were brainstorming ideas on how to raise funds with the 5K run and Trudy said, "How about a dollhouse raffle. Habitat builds houses and you clearly have some pretty talented people. Build a dollhouse and raffle it off." Of course! A Dollhouse Raffle. I couldn't believe we hadn't thought about that.

I mentioned the idea to Larry, who had just completed a pint sized house for use, and by the next weekend he'd already put together the plan and was on the hunt for materials.

Now we have a Habitat Dollhouse that we will be raffling off this year. It garnered a lot of attention at the Home Sweet Home Show earlier this year as well as at our Mr. Habitat competition and our Kickoff Cookout Potluck last month. Folks are just tickled about a tiny little Habitat house.

If you'd like your chance to win, simply come by the office at 420 N Cottonwood and purchase your tickets. They are only $5 each or 3 for $10.

Thanks Trudy for the inspired idea!
